The 2026/27 application process consists of 2 stages:
We require a weekly commitment to meetings/social events until Summer 2027.
Stage 1 is an online application form available below including a CV upload and an explanation of why you want to join the club.
Stage 2 is an online interview with a committee member where you will be required to present an asset pitch of your choice and explain what you will bring to the club.
Any student attending the University of Bath is eligible to apply.
Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis.
There is a £30 membership fee if your application is successful, this is used to fund operating expenses (for speakers, social events), stock pitch competition prizes, etc.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
Do I need to study Economics, Management, or Accounting and Finance to apply? No, we welcome students from all degree disciplines.
When will applications open? SOBIC opens applications at the start of each semester. Please check our LinkedIn and Instagram for announcements.
What happens if I don't get in? You are welcome to apply again at a later intake stage. Many of our members were initially rejected from SOBIC before joining.
Do I need any prior finance knowledge to apply? We expect you to be proactive and have conducted your own research into finance and its career paths. We are more lenient in our expectation of 1st-years compared to 2nd and final-year applicants.
What is the weekly time commitment? We expect members to be involved in events, workshops, speaker series, and stock pitch competitions. the amount of time required varies throughout the year depending on scheduled events.
How do Portfolio Managers (PMs) get selected, since there's no separate application? We choose PMs through two main routes. If you show very strong capabilities during a membership or committee interview, we will internally discuss whether you would be more suited to be a PM. We also directly contact strong candidates through SOBIC's network. PMs are almost always final-year students.
